What Imovane (zopiclone) tablet is and what is it used for?
Imovane tablet is a prescription based drug that contains zopiclone as active pharmaceutical ingredient belongs to a class of drugs called hypnotics. Imovane (Zopiclone) is used as a short term treatment to treat all types of insomnia (e.g., difficulty in sleeping, waking up during night or early in the morning) including anxiety induced insomnia.
The activity of Imovane (zopiclone) tablet is due to its high affinity for central receptors of GABA macromolecular complex that modulate the opening of chloride channels. It basically increases the activity of GABA in the brain and produces sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic and anticonvulsant effects.

If you suffer from myasthenia
gravis (weak muscle condition)
·
If you are less than 18 years
of age
You must consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Imovane (Zopiclone) tablets:

If you are suffering from any
mental illness including depression
·
If you have renal or hepatic problems
·
If you have lung infection or
breathing problem
·
If you have a history of drug
abuse or alcoholism
·
If you have used some other
similar medicines for insomnia in recent past
Imovane
(Zopiclone) tablet might induce suicidal thoughts in its consumers; if you
experience such thoughts you must immediately stop taking this medication and
contact your doctor.
When
you take Imovane (Zopiclone) tablet make sure that you can take a sleep of 7-8
hour after taking this tablet.
Do not take Imovane tablet with opioids as it can cause drowsiness, difficulty in breathing, coma or even death. The concomitant use of Zopiclone with opioids is prohibited.
You
must tell your doctor or pharmacist before taking Imovane (Zopiclone) tablet if
you are taking any of the following medication:
Antipsychotic
drugs, antidepressants, antiepileptic drugs, anesthetics, anxiolytics,
sedatives and antihistamines as these medicines potentiates sedative effect of
Imovane (zopiclone) tablet.
Do not take
Imovane tablet with alcohol as it will enhance the sedative effect of this
medication.
Imovane
(Zopiclone) tablet is not recommended if you are less than 18 years of age as
the safety data is not established for this age group.
If you are pregnant or planning to have a baby or if you are a breastfeeding mother, you must consult your doctor before taking Imovane tablet. Studies showed that if you take Imovane tablet during your pregnancy the fetus might get affected and the baby born with cleft palate and lip. Imovane tablet also affect the heart rate of baby, body temperature of baby drops and muscle weakness in baby appears if you take Imovane tablet in last trimester. Zopiclone is also excreted in small amounts in breast milk.
If you are taking Imovane tablets then you must not get involved in such activities that require mental alertness such as driving etc. as this medication causes dizziness, induce sleep and reduce your brain cognitive function.
Always take Imovane tablet exactly the way your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
Take
the whole tablet orally without chewing or crushing the tablet, with a glass of
water before going to sleep.
Always start the treatment with the lowest possible dose. The recommended dose of Zopiclone is 7.5mg for adults and 3.75mg for elderly.
It is not recommended to use in children
The treatment duration is decided by your doctor; however it must not exceed four weeks including the period of dose tapering to avoid withdrawal effects.
If you or someone takes an overdose or a lot many tablets of Imovane, you must immediately rush to hospital or emergency department as you will get drowsy rapidly with an overdose of Imovane.
If you forget to take you Imovane tablet and you are unable to fall asleep, then you must take your dose as soon as you remind it or take the next scheduled dose at its right time, but do not take a double dose in order to make up for your missed dose.
Imovane tablet causes dependence and if you stop taking it abruptly you will experience withdrawal effects. Therefore the mechanism of dose tapering (gradual dose reduction) is required in order to stop taking this medication without or with minor withdrawal effects.
Some of the common side effects associated with use of Imovane (Zopiclone) tablets are: drowsiness, sleepiness, metallic taste and dry mouth etc.
Keep
Imovane tablets out of reach and sight of children. Store Imovane tablet below
25oC and protect from light.
Do not use Imovane tablet after the expiry date mentioned on the pack and blister strip after EXP.
